National Conference for Christian Teachers and Teaching Assistants 2008

Life in all its fullness

Life in all its fullness

Christian perspectives on wholeness and wellbeing

19-21 September 2008

This conference offers busy Christian teachers and teaching assistants time to stop, think and reflect. Delegates will be invited to consider how our understanding of the wholeness of the person, of life and of Gods world influence both the task of teaching and the promotion of pupil and staff wellbeing.

Life in all its fullness

Ideas of wholeness, shalom and wellbeing abound in the Bible as descriptions of the purposes God has for the world he has made and the people he has made in his image. They provide us with aims which can make teaching meaningful for us and those among whom we teach and learn.

Teaching for wholeness includes teaching for a whole perspective on Gods world, the wholeness of our personal being and the wholeness of life in all its phases and kinds of activity.

Teaching for wholeness counters two potential dehumanising trends:

  • Failure to bring curriculum subjects together into relation with one another, separating head from heart, private from public and sacred from secular.
  • Over emphasising a single aspect of education, e.g. attainment vs personal development, achieving economic well being.
A Christian approach in the classroom promotes a biblical balance in all of this.

Speakers include:
